"Prayer is the power house of the Church"

St Mary's Sunday School

The Sunday School meets during the 10:30 morning service (excepting the first Sunday each month which is 'all age worship'). Children for Sunday School leave the service, normally during the second hymn, just after the Children's talk and before the Gospel reading. There are 3 groups for different age ranges

There are typically 30+ children in Sunday School each week, most are regulars. It is a privilege to see their knowledge of God, and Jesus, and things spiritual grow throughout the year.

Children gather for a couple of songs, usually very active and participative ones, and these are always good fun. The groups then divide into the various classes where activities are age-related, with the younger ones making something that usually involves glue and crayons, and the older ones doing a Bible study related activity or discussion. Children leave Sunday School in time for communion, where they can either rejoin their family or stay with the rest of the School in the side chapel until the end of the service.

Teachers & Helpers

Those who teach and help are on a rota and usually do one week in every four, swapping with others as necessary to accommodate other commitments. Everyone appears to enjoy the challenge of assembling the lesson which are usually based on the Scripture Union SALT books. All our teachers & helpers are required to have CRB Enhanced Certification.

Prayer

There is a high profile on prayer, looking for input from the youngsters themselves. We talk about answers to prayer we have received to heighten their awareness of the reality of this important aspect of Christian life.
